Hi folks,
First, sorry I've been MIA for the last few weeks. We are finally moved into the new house and out of the old house, and my wife and I have all of our stuff under one roof for the first time ever (and me for the first time in 6 years).
Now, I am the sort of person whose head is turned by several things, two of which are cool old bikes and interesting buildings. Hancock Ave used to be the route between home and downtown for us, and I have been intrigued by 601 W. Hancock since we moved here in November. It's a cool abandoned brick building on a corner not far from Big City Bread.
According to the tax records, the property last changed hands in 1996 for $25,500 to Brian Weaver and Jennifer Jordan. It has historic status, and had been a hair salon and a cafe back in the 40's.
I'm guessing that the property is worth a lot more than 25 grand to the current owners, given its location. From what I can tell, the insides need to be gutted and of course all of the boarded up windows need to be repaired. However, it wouldn't take much to get the place in better shape than the current space, and it would be an optimal location. If we could get somebody to buy it for us it would be ours forever.
So, I thought I'd throw the idea out there, and maybe somebody knows somebody who knows one of the owners, and somebody else might know Michael Stipe's accountant.
See you tomorrow night,
Jason
