Get excited, BikeAthens is once again participating in the ACC annual Downtown Parade of Lights this Thursday December 2. The theme for this yearâs parade is Timeless Traditions, and whatâs more timeless than biking with the family! Ride to school or football games, on camping trips in state parks, on fatherâs day, or after that BIG turkey dinner! You can come watch us, or better yet, JOIN US! Weâll all have lights and be wearing bows on our helmets or dressed like presents. Anyone who wants to ride with us should try to get there by 5:30 PM since thatâs when judging will take place. Then the parade will start moving around 6:15. Remember to bundle up!! For more information on time and location check out the website http://www.accleisureservices.com/christmas_parade.shtml *********************************************************** Last Last Bike to Market Day So I know we said the last one was the last one, but then the Farmerâs Market decided to extend their season! Lucky us because that means more fresh, local food and one more Bike to Market Day this Saturday December 4. So bundle up and walk, bike, or ride the bus to the market one more time, get your free cookie, and show your love for BikeAthens! Remember it starts at 9 AM, not 8 AM for this month. *********************************************************** BRPâs Holiday Bikes for Kids in full swing The Bike Recycling Program has officially started the annual Holiday Bikes for Kids program, meaning we will be working on kids bikes full time for the next month. We are looking for good kids bikes to refurbish, and for volunteers to help us repair them. Our goal this year is 60 kids bikes! The project seeks to provide a happy holiday season to underprivileged youth by providing them with a quality, fully refurbished bicycle. More info on the website: http://www.bikeathens.com/activities/bike_recycling/hb4k.html We will be keeping normal shop hours of Sundays from 2-4 and Mondays and Wednesdays from 6-8. Special Saturday hours have been added this year on December 4, 11, and 18 from 8 AM to noon. Individuals seeking to donate bicycles, supplies, or other gifts can stop by at these times or contact brp [at] bikeathens.com. We are located at the Chase Street Warehouses. *********************************************************** Living carless in Atlanta Check out this awesome story from CNN about Chris Hrubresh, an Atlanta resident who traded in his car for a bike and public transportation. He estimates his savings at between $300 and $500 a month and calls it one of the best decisions heâs ever made. Chris rode in the Tour de Farm last year too! http://www.cnn.com/2010/LIVING/11/19/atlanta.car.free/index.html?hpt=C2 *********************************************************** Top Ten Safe Routes to Schools Engineering Treatments to Improve Walking/Bicycling Log in to this free webinar https://www1.gotomeeting.com/register/736725177 on Tuesday December 14 from 1 to 2 PM to learn what basic physical improvements are needed to provide a more safe and desirable environment for walking and bicycling. Topics to be addressed include which engineering treatments provide greatest impact for Safe Routes to School, when they should be used, and how to get the right people involved. Participants will learn to identify physical barriers to walking and bicycling, how to create SRTS maps, how various treatments will help address safety issues, and how to implement and maintain these treatments. Registration is required and can be completed at the website. *********************************************************** Thanks for coming out to support Aaron Lee and BikeAthens Thanks to all who came out and supported BikeAthens at the Ukulele by Bike Tour!
