How much could YOU save by riding transit instead of driving?

Anyone else notice the jump in gas prices? Apparently itâs the second
biggest in the history of the gasoline market- 33 cents per gallon in two
weeks, eeeek. Check out this article and comments for more details on
exactly how much you could save!

Buice- Executive Director for Georgia Bikes! is up there reppinâ for

T-SPLOST update

What can T-SPLOST do for me? -âIf voters approve the extra penny, the new
tax could fund alternative transportation projects like sidewalks, buses,
and bicycle lanesâwhich, under Georgia law, cannot be funded with gasoline
taxesâas well as roads and bridges. The total amount of money being spent
on transportation in our region might roughly double, and ACC sales taxes
would reach 8 percent.â

Check out this Flagpole article for more info on how projects are selected:

BRP back in full swing!

Itâs March, oddly warm and springtime-like, and everyone is good and
rested from the Holiday bikes push. That means weekday BRP sessions are
back! BRP workdays are held Mondays & Wednesdays from 6-8 and Sundays from
2-4:30 at the Chase St. warehouses. Volunteers need not have any knowledge
of bicycle maintenance; just be willing to get their hands dirty
repairing, tuning up, cleaning, and outfitting bikes. Feel free to bring
your own repair stands and tools although it is not necessary that you
have these items to participate.

BikeAthens' Bicycle Recycling program, a cooperative venture with local
social support agencies, distributes reconditioned bikes to individuals in
the Athens community who are underserved by private and public
transportation. We rely exclusively on volunteers to recondition the
bikes.

On the Horizon

March 22- Georgia Rides to the Capital
During the sixth annual "Georgia Rides to the Capitol" event, cyclists
will embark on rides to the Capitol in order to raise support for improved
conditions for cycling, including the development of regional systems of
both on-road bicycling facilities and multi-use-trails. The event will
clearly demonstrate the widespread support in our state for better
bicycling laws! For more information, check out the website:
http://www.georgiaridestothecapitol.org/index.php

Also, a few cyclists from Athens plan to drive in for the ride and ride
from the Decatur area to the capitol. Let us know if you want to tag
along. Also, note there are rides from many cities across the metro area
and perhaps one from your hometown too!

March 27- Bike Recycling Programâs Spring Bike Sale!
Looking for a new (to you) bike? Come to our annual Spring Bike Sale and
check out our commuters, cruisers, racers, and mountain bikes.Prices are
generally $150 and up. All proceeds support the Bicycle Recycling Program.
