Thursday's "work session" presentation slides are available at http://www.athensclarkecounty.com/index.aspx?nid=3065
and include some additional info on all the projects that ACC Transp. and Public Works is recommending for T-SPLOST funding.
I've copied the bike projects below.
I was concerned that no sidewalk projects are included, but David Clark says
it is "challenging' to justify sidewalks as regional, and that sidewalks will be funded (if T-SPLOST passes in August 2012) from the 25% of funds that each county will have carte blanche to use.Â
One can make up one's own mind about the necessity of the various road projects that are being recommended; but it is at least instructive to note how much farther money can go for bike lanes, transit, and sidewalks as compared to expensive road projects (like $10 million for the dubious Jennings Mill Parkway...)Â Having said that, the amounts of money rec'd for transit and bike lanes would have been un-dreamed-of in the days before BikeAthens...Â
ÂLexingtonÂRoadâ widenÂforÂbikeÂlanesÂbetweenÂSR10ÂLoopÂandÂGainesÂSchoolÂRoadÂ($3.5Â
million))
â MilledgeÂAvenueâ widenÂforÂbikeÂlanesÂbetweenÂLumpkinÂStreetÂandÂPrinceÂAvenueÂ($4.5Â
million)
$
â PrinceÂAvenueâ widenÂforÂbikeÂlanesÂbetweenÂPulaskiÂStreetÂandÂSRÂ10ÂLoopÂ($5.0Âmillion)
â RailÂtoÂTrailâ conversionÂofÂtheÂabandonedÂrailÂlineÂ
toÂaÂmultiâuseÂtrailÂconnectingÂtheÂÂMultiâmodalÂ
CenterÂtoÂDudleyÂParkÂandÂtoÂtheÂexistingÂbicycleÂ
facilitiesÂalongÂBarnettÂShoalsÂRoadÂ($1.8Âmillion)
