Panelists will also briefly discuss regional bus, bike, pedestrian, and greenway plans that qualify for the project list. Keep in mind that organizers emphasize that the rail and other projects presented at the forum should be funded from the money set aside for regional projects- not the funds set aside for local projects. The public forum will be led by Russell Edwards and the event is free and open to the public. Sustainable transportation advocates from across the region are encouraged to attend. Public input is encouraged. There will be a mixer beforehand, beginning at 5 PM. Recap: WHAT: Regional TSPLOST Forum focused on regional freight and passenger rail improvements WHEN: 6 PM, Monday, March 28; 5 PM mixer WHERE: The Capitol Room inside the Georgian Hotel at 247 E.Washington Street Athens, GA 30601 *********************************************************** Itâs time again for BikeAthens Group Rides! (formerly Courteous Mass) The first ride of the season is Friday, April 1st! The BikeAthens Group Ride is a leisurely, law-abiding group bicycle ride around Athens. The purpose of the ride is to: 1) provide a safe, enjoyable atmosphere for all ages and skill levels to ride bicycles, and 2) to demonstrate that bicycles, vehicles under state law, belong on our public streets and roadways. Group Rides are held on the first Friday of every month, from April - October. For this first ride, we have a new start and ending location at EARTHFARE in five points at 6 PM. Dress appropriately and bring plenty of water and a helmet! ALSO, this year we adding an official social gathering after each ride, so come out and join us around 7 even if you donât feel like riding! Group Rides is also seeking volunteers to be a part of the ride and the BikeAthens Group Ride Council. Weâve got some fun things in the works to spice up our usual rides and need your help! If youâre interested in being involved, please contact board member Anna for details at argore [at] gmail.com *********************************************************** HandsOn Northeast Georgia, a program of Community Connection is looking for volunteers to assist with the Twilight Criterium, Athens' annual bike race event. They specifically need strong, hard working volunteers to help with set-up, take down, and other tasks. Volunteers will receive a t-shirt and 'front row' seats at the exciting event. For more information about Athens Twilight, visit: http://www.athenstwilight.com/ For specific information about volunteer needs, visit: http://volunteer.truist.com/hng/user/events/one.tcl?event_id=10365357074 *********************************************************** House Bill 101- the Better Bicycling Bill- continues slow but sure progress through state legislature Check out this article in the Banner Herald about the Better Bicycling Bill- a few changes are in the mix, but overall news is good! http://www.onlineathens.com/stories/032211/bre_803627471.shtml *********************************************************** BRP back in full swing BRP workdays are held Mondays & Wednesdays from 6-8 and Sundays from 2-4:30 at the Chase St. warehouses. Volunteers need not have any knowledge of bicycle maintenance; just be willing to get their hands dirty repairing, tuning up, cleaning, and outfitting bikes. Feel free to bring your own repair stands and tools although it is not necessary that you have these items to participate. BikeAthens' Bicycle Recycling program, a cooperative venture with local social support agencies, distributes reconditioned bikes to individuals in the Athens community who are underserved by private and public transportation. We rely exclusively on volunteers to recondition the bikes. *********************************************************** Keep in touch at our blog http://bikeathens.blogspot.com/ and facebook page http://www.facebook.com/pages/BikeAthens/126325948567 -- BikeAthens appreciates your continued support towards its mission of improving transportation options in Athens-Clarke County.
