First BikeAthens Group Ride of the Year this Friday, April 1! (formerly
Courteous Mass)

Join us for our first ride of the spring! BikeAthens Group Rides are a
reminder that roads are meant for sharing. A leisurely 4-7 mile ride
around town is a perfect way to explore your town, have fun, demonstrate
safe cycling, and encourage bicycle awareness. Dress appropriately and
bring plenty of water and a helmet!

This week's ride will end at a BikeAthens social, sponsored by Earth Fare!
The social is from 7-8PM at Earth Fare, so drop by to have snacks, chat,
and learn about BikeAthens.

Join us for either or both!
6-7 PM for the Group Ride, starting and ending at Earth Fare
7-8 PM for the BikeAthens Social at Earth Fare.

Group Rides is also seeking volunteers to be a part of the ride and the
BikeAthens Group Ride Council. Weâve got some fun things in the works to
spice up our usual rides and need your help! If youâre interested in being
involved, please contact board member Anna for details at
admin [at] bikeathens.com

Fallen Heroes Bike Ride is Sunday, April 3

We are all shocked and saddened by the news of the shooting of two of
Athensâ Finest, Officers Elmer âBuddyâ Christian and Tony Howard, and
especially by the senseless and tragic death of Officer Christian. We
encourage folks to come out to honor our fallen officers and support their
friends and families this Sunday April 3 at this fundraising/memorial bike
ride. The ride will leave from Jittery Joes on Baxter at 1 PM on April 3,
registration will begin at noon or you can register ahead of time at JJs.
The basic route is 40 miles, but there will be shorter options available
as well, with sandwiches, snacks, and drinks provided at the finish line.
The suggested donation is $25 per rider.

If you would like to volunteer your time and energy please contact Heather
McElroy at hjmcelroy [at] bellsouth.net

Thanks for a successful bike sale!

Thanks, folks, for a successful bike sale! We all had fun, raised some
money for BRP, and still have MORE bikes for sale! If you missed last
weekâs sale, stop by during our regular shop hours this Sunday from 2-4 to
check out some nice bikes. Prices are generally $150 and up and all
proceeds support the Bike Recycling Program.

BikeAthens named the Friend of Earthfare for April, May, and June!

Thanks to our friends at Earthfare for partnering with us! Now you can
show your support for BikeAthens by shopping at Earthfare- how deliciously
wonderful! Just be sure to bring your reusable bag, we get a small
donation every time you do. And be sure to keep your eyes peeled for fun
fundraising events at our neighborhood store down in five points!

BRP back in full swing

BRP workdays are held Mondays & Wednesdays from 6-8 and Sundays from
2-4:30 at the Chase St. warehouses. Volunteers need not have any knowledge
of bicycle maintenance; just be willing to get their hands dirty
repairing, tuning up, cleaning, and outfitting bikes. Feel free to bring
your own repair stands and tools although it is not necessary that you
have these items to participate.

BikeAthens' Bicycle Recycling program, a cooperative venture with local
social support agencies, distributes reconditioned bikes to individuals in
the Athens community who are underserved by private and public
transportation. We rely exclusively on volunteers to recondition the
bikes.

Elsewhere on the Athens bike scene

Twilight Criterium needs volunteers! HandsOn Northeast Georgia, a program
of Community Connection is looking for volunteers to assist with the
Twilight Criterium, Athens' annual bike race event. They specifically need
strong, hard working volunteers to help with set-up, take
down, and other tasks. Volunteers will receive a t-shirt and 'front row'
seats at the exciting event.
