Down the Road and Elsewhere in Athens *********************************************************** Event: 2nd Annual New Belgium cLips of Faith Film Festival, Friday, October 7 Get ready for a fun evening festival in downtown Athens this Friday. There, you can sample all of New Belgiumâs latest brews, plus watch mini-films about sustainability and alternative transportation on a huge screen at the end of Washington Street. We have filled our volunteer requests. Thank you volunteers! *********************************************************** Event: Ga Bike Summit Conference, Saturday and Sunday, October 8-9 Join bike advocates from across the state for a conference this Saturday, and rides Sunday! The all day conference (at the Georgia Center) is packed with sessions on bike safety and funding stats, new bike facility designs, encouragement and education methods, legislative successes, and law enforcement issues. A few big name folks will be in attendance, 8am-5pm. The after-party is in the Sunshine Bikes parking lot, followed by a mini-film series about bicycles downtown at Cineâ, 7:15-9pm. Join in on the effort to educate city and community leadership on Transportation Choices. Many initiatives are underway, including Traffic Calming program education and increasing public input opportunities on bike/ped planning in Athens. Join us this Thursday, Oct 6, 6pm! *********************************************************** Greenway Commission seeking applications Applications are being accepted through Friday, Oct 7 for appointment to the Oconee Rivers Greenway Commission. Volunteers need not have any knowledge of bicycle maintenance; just be willing to get their hands dirty repairing, tuning up, cleaning, and outfitting bikes. Feel free to bring your own repair stands and tools although it is not necessary that you have these items to participate. BikeAthens' Bicycle Recycling program, a cooperative venture with local social support agencies, distributes reconditioned bikes to individuals in the Athens community who are underserved by private and public transportation. We rely exclusively on volunteers to recondition the bikes.
