Transportation Policy Committee meeting, Today

Join the Transportation Policy Committee to help finalize an Athens
Complete Streets Policy draft at Cine Cafe, 6pm, today. In addition, you
can join the discussion to help broaden the coalition of partners that
will soon present this to the Mayor and Commission. Come help the overall
effort to build more complete streets in Athens, so every citizen,
including pedestrians, bicyclists, transit riders, and car drivers can
move about safely on our roads, regardless of choice in travel mode. If
you canât make it to the meeting and are a business or organization
interested in joining the coalition or getting more information, contact
policy [at] bikeathens.com.

BRP needs kidsâ Bikes and Volunteers!

It's that time of year again and we are looking for kids bikes to
refurbish for our Holiday Bikes For Kids drive. If you have bikes in good
condition that your kids have outgrown,
please consider donating them to our program. BRP reconditions the bikes,
and donates them to schools and social service agencies that distribute
them to kids in need, just before the Holidays. We are accepting
donations at our BRP bike shop during normal hours, or contact
brp [at] bikeathens.com if you can't make it down then. We're also looking for
monetary donations to help buy new helmets to distribute with each bike.
We pay $5 each for helmets so every donation helps. We also rely
exclusively on volunteers at our warehouse shop located in the Chase St.
warehouse district. Volunteers need not have any knowledge of bicycle
maintenance; just be willing to get their hands dirty repairing, tuning
up, cleaning, and outfitting bikes. The shop is currently operating under
the following expanded time schedule:

o Sundays: 2 â 4:30PM
o Mondays & Wednesdays: 6 â 8:30PM
o Saturdays: 9:30AM â 12:30PM (December 3, 10, & 17 only!)
o Last day of HB4K project: Sunday, Dec. 18

Weekly Read: Back to the Future of Downtown

For a few years, the Athens Downtown Development Authority had been
rallying the community around a potential Downtown Master Plan. The city
requested and received multiple proposals for a future Plan, but never
committed to pay for it.
