Trail, Inc. to become the March 24th Firefly Trail Ticket to Ride. This
inaugural bike ride/tour was designed to build support and awareness of
the Firefly Trail. Come explore the route of the proposed rail-to-trail
project along roads through the scenic countryside and usually within a
few yards of the historic Georgia Railroad corridor where the trail will
be installed. FREE, open to all, and fully supported with SAG stations and

3. BRP Volunteer Opportunities

BRP workdays are held Mondays & Wednesdays from 6-8 PM and Sundays from
2-4:30 PM at the Chase St. warehouses. Come volunteer with us! New
volunteers are best on Wednesdays. No skills necessary - we have plenty
of volunteer jobs for all levels of experience. Just be willing to get
your hands dirty.

BikeAthens' Bicycle Recycling program, a cooperative venture with local
social support agencies, distributes reconditioned bikes to individuals in
the Athens community who are underserved by private and public
transportation. We rely exclusively on volunteers to recondition the
bikes. For more info, go to www.bikeathens.com/programs/brp

5. Weekly Reads: SB 468 defeated!

Last week, Georgia Senator Butch Miller of Gainesville introduced Senate
Bill 468, which would have required single-file bicycle riding. Georgia
Bikes, the statewide bicycle safety advocacy organization, responded
immediately. Now the Senator is helping to implement a Complete Streets
policy over the remainder of this and into the next legislative session.

The Surprising 21st Century, March 8
AndrÃs Duany, world-renown architect and urban designer, spoke at the 2001
BikeAthens Tour de Sprawl, and heâs back again. Sponsored by the UGA
College of Environment and Design, his lecture will address current

sprawl. Thursday, March 8, 5:30-6:30pm, at the University of Georgia
Miller Learning Center, room 171, Dean Nadenicek explains that Duanyâs
visit to Athens is very timely given recent proposals to build new
commercial buildings near downtown at the old Armstrong and Dobbs site.
He states that âDuany will help us re-focus the dialog on the need for
good quality design.â
