2. Bike to Market Day, April 21

Visit us at the Athens Farmers Market http://athensfarmersmarket.net at
Bishop Park every third Saturday, 8am-12pm, starting this month and
continuing until December.  Each month will focus on a different theme as
it relates to bike safety and education.  This will involve commuter
assistance to help plan safe routes for commuters and riders, education
about cycling and pedestrian road laws to ensure proper compliance, bike
repairs and tune-ups to learn how to safely maintain your bicycle, and
opportunities to become a member of BikeAthens.

3. Dinner and Bikes, April 26

Elly Blue, a famed bicycle blogger and advocate hailing from Portland,
Oregon, will come through Athens the Thursday before the Twilight
Criterium, 7-9pm.  This event will include a review of BikeAthens
advocacy, Ellyâs discussion of her Portland advocacy, perusal of their
awesome bike-related mobile bookstore, and a wonderful vegetarian dinner
by the culinary graces of her chef, whoâs willing to make it happen for us
at $15/plate, $10/BA member, $8/student, $6/BA student member.  We are
very close to full for this event, so reserve your space soon at
admin [at] bikeathens.com.  Once you do this, Iâll send information on how to
pre-pay for this event, since we canât take walk-ups the day of.

5. BRP Volunteer Opportunities

BRP workdays are held Mondays & Wednesdays from 6-8 PM and Sundays from
2-4:30 PM at the Chase St. warehouses.  Come volunteer with us!  New
volunteers are best on Wednesdays.  No skills necessary - we have plenty
of volunteer jobs for all levels of experience.  Just be willing to get
your hands dirty.

BikeAthens' Bicycle Recycling program, a cooperative venture with local
social support agencies, distributes reconditioned bikes to individuals in
the Athens community who are underserved by private and public
transportation. We rely exclusively on volunteers to recondition the

May is National Bike Month!
If you haven't already, give your two-wheeled friend a spring cleaning and
join us for a host of events!  The May 4th BikeAthens Group Ride will
celebrate the start of the month.  Bike to Work Week is May 14-18, ending
with Bike to Work Day on Friday May 18th!  Stay tuned for BikeAthens
events during this bicycle-filled month!

National Bike Challenge, starts May 1
Register and log miles ridden to show your love for cycling and to compete
for prizes!  Starts starts May 1st!

Traffic Safety for Cyclists course, May 3
Come register for this course offered by BikeAthens at the Athens
Community Council on Aging.  Come learn about traffic laws in Georgia,
bike lane positioning, safety checks, crash avoidance techniques, and how
to ride in a group.  Fast-paced and fun, from 5 - 6:30pm.

Group Ride, May 4
Join us for a casually-paced ride around the central Athens area.  Meet
the 1st Friday of each month, at 6pm at City Hall, and bring a helmet,
water, and some enthusiasm!  Weâll show you some key riding tips, and
share some knowledge on Rules of the Road.

ACHFâs Green Bike Tour, May 5
Join Athens Clarke Heritage Foundation as they partner with BikeAthens for
their final event in the 2011-2012 Preservation Matters Historic
Preservation: Inherently Green series.  The tour, starting at 10am, will
showcase âgreenâ building methods, educate on safe biking strategies, and
discuss Athensâ walking, biking and public transportation options. Tour
stops include properties in Pulaski Heights, Boulevard, and Cobbham. 
Athens Land Trust will discuss Earthcraft standards and infill in historic
neighborhoods.  Lori Bork of Bork Architectural Design Inc. will present
information on the sustainability features (including LEED) of each
property visited.  USGBC/AIA continuing education credits offered:

Registration fees ($10) can be paid online at

BikeAthensâ BRP. Checks can be mailed to ACHF, Old Fire Hall #2, 489
