2. Act NOW to protect Bike/Ped Funding!

With this easy webform, act now to protect what should be easy access for
local governments to huge federal bike/ped funding pots. Originally, the
bill would have increased local access to federal money, but now Congress
is talking about adding another provision to allow the states to opt out
of allowing their local governments access to this money. If you agree
with BikeAthens that our local planners and engineers know our streets
better than GDOT, act now with this link:

3. ACC Public Forum on proposed Tallassee/Whitehead Road intersection

Voice your opinion at this public forum at 6:30pm, this Thursday, June 14.
Meet at the Friendship Christian Church on Tallassee Road to hear about 2
options to improve this currently unsafe intersection: a European style
round-a-bout or the traditional signalized intersection. The
round-a-bout, while featuring a learning curve for drivers, will
ultimately slow them at this historically dangerous location, making it
safer for pedestrians.

4. Volunteer for BikeAthens

Bike to Market Day: Bishop Park, 8am-12pm, June 16
Bike Recycling Program (BRP): BRP workdays are held Mondays & Wednesdays
from 6-8 PM and Sundays from 2-4:30 PM at the Chase St. warehouses. New
volunteers are best on Wednesdays. No skills necessary - we have plenty
of volunteer jobs for all levels of experience. Just be willing to get
your hands dirty. BRP reconditions bikes to individuals in our community
who are currently underserved by private and public transportation.

5. Spotlight: BRP Outreach to Action Ministries

Three BRP mechanics went to Action Ministries, sponsored by Our Daily
Bread at the Oconee St. Methodist Church Sunday, May 20, from 5-7 and
helped between 10-12 customers with their bikes. This was an attempt to
assist riders who are outside of BRP's normal bike donation program but
can't afford conventional bike shop service. Tyler Dewey, Jason Perry, and
Richard Shoemaker worked "pretty much non-stop with a very considerate and
appreciative group," Richard told the BRP Council. "We brought 2 work
stands, a couple of tool boxes, numerous tubes, tires, cables, brake pads,
a table, etc. and were able to adjust gears and brakes and did a few other
minor repairs to tires and the like. Several folks borrowed our tools to
help do their own repairs, as well. All in all, the weather was great as
we worked in the Action Ministeries parking lot on Oconee St. beneath a
pair of old oaks."
