BRPâs Holiday Bikes for Kids makes final push

So the annual Holiday Bikes for Kids program has been going full steam for
a few weeks now and we have almost reached our goal of 60 bikes....almost.
We need our wonderful volunteers this week more than ever as we put the
final touches on the last bunch of bikes. Those with some mechanical
experience are especially needed, though of course all are welcome and
would be very much appreciated. The project seeks to provide a happy
holiday season to underprivileged youth by providing them with a quality,
fully refurbished bicycle. More info on the website:
http://www.bikeathens.com/activities/bike_recycling/hb4k.html

Shop hours are same as usual- Sundays from 2-4 and Mondays and Wednesdays
from 6-8. Special Saturday hours have been added this year on December 4,
11, and 18 from 8 AM to noon. And this week only we are having an extra
work session on Friday from 6-8:30. Individuals seeking to donate
bicycles, supplies, or other gifts can stop by at these times or contact
brp [at] bikeathens.com. We are located at the Chase Street Warehouses.

Make sure your voice is heard in the selection of transit tax projects

The Northeast Georgia Regional Transportation Roundtable is about to write
a plan to spend $1.2 billion on roads, bridges, airports, trains,
sidewalks, trails and buses over the next 10 years- if voters agree in
2012 to tax themselves 1 percent to pay for the projects they pick. The
roundtable is a group of 24 elected officials from 12 counties- ACCâs
representatives are Alice Kinman and new mayor Nancy Denson. So if you
want to speak up for bike/ped projects, let these two know. Or help the
BikeAthens Policy Committee do this by emailing amy47johnson [at] gmail.com.

Interesting article on one of the infrequently discussed costs of driving

Itâs not just how much youâre driving- thereâs no such thing as free
parking...
