BRPâs Holiday Bikes for Kids surpasses goal!

Last week the BRP volunteers delivered 66 fully refurbished childrenâs
bicycles (the goal was 60) complete with helmets to Athens Land Trust,
Fowler Drive Elementary, Children First!, Project Safe, JJ Harris
Elementary, Whitehead Road Elementary, White County DFCS, and others!
Thanks to the dedicated work of BRP volunteers, 66 underprivileged kids
will be celebrating the holidays with a bike of their own. Be proud of
yourselves, thatâs an amazing and beautiful thing! And of course a big
thanks to those who donated bikes or other supplies to fuel the effort, we
couldnât have done it without you.

Help make Athens an official Bike Friendly Community

We need your help! BikeAthens will be assisting the Athens-Clarke County
government in applying for the coveted Bicycle Friendly Community
designation through the League of American Bicyclists in early 2011.
BikeAthens is supportive of this application because of the many positive
benefits it could bring: promotion of our community on a national level,
benchmarking and technical assistance for the local government, and
feedback on what we can do to enhance the cycling environment. For more
information on the program, visit
http://www.bikeleague.org/programs/bicyclefriendlyamerica/communities/index.php.
A community meeting will be scheduled for shortly after the New Year to
discuss volunteer opportunities - in the meantime, email Nina at
chair [at] bikeathens.com if you'd like to be involved!

Check out this video of all our awesome supporters who came out to the
Holiday Parade of Lights and helped us win a prize for the third year in a
row! The video includes the whole parade, but you can fast-forward to
around 17:45 to catch the minute or so of glorious holiday biking fun.
