Another very important BikeAthens Action Item is below:

Ga HB 180 was written to legislate 3 feet of safe passing distance between cyclists and automobiles.  This bill will be called the Tony Serrano Act, after the triathlete that was struck and killed in 2004.  The bill is now in the Public Safety Committee in a "House First Readers" status.  Please send an email, through the attached link, to your representative to express support at this early stage.

Subject: Contact your legislators to support 3 foot safe passing in Georgia

Take action to support safer cycling in Georgia
Urge lawmakers to support HB 180

HB 180, the "Three Foot Safe Passing" bill, will define a minimum safe passing distance for cars overtaking bicycles in Georgia. Sixteen other states have already adopted similar legislation, and more are pursuing it this year. When enacted, this legislation will be called the "Tony Serrano Act," in honor of a Georgia triathlete killed by a passing vehicle in August 2004.ï Urge Georgia legislators to support safer cycling and vote in favor of HB 180.
