Hi, Everyone,

I'd like to thank the BikeAthens Board for attending the post group ride social at Earth Fare Friday evening to meet, greet, and discuss concerns or answer questions.  As an active member of the Bike Recycling Program for a year, this was the first time I had a chance to see all the Board members in one place. Now, the Board has a face (or should I say "faces"?).

 

Though I was not prepared to ask any serious questions of Board members in the informal setting, I began to realize that this kind of meeting might be good to have 2 times a year to enable BA members to discuss concerns directly with the entire Board.  I know Board members are stretched terribly thin with their official duties, jobs, and family, but there would be some tangible benefits to such a gathering.  One key advantage, of course, is to personalize the Board and make it more accessible.  Another is to energize both Board members and BA members who don't get a chance to discuss goals, visions or concerns in a more formal, business-like environment.  A brief formal gathering, followed by a social could get ideas flowing and also serve to inform BA membership of the enormous number of activities with which BA is involved.  The new BA website and the re-vitalized BRP Facebook page are a huge help.  Adding the face-to-face "Meet the BikeAthens Board" events would be even more energizing.

 

Lastly, it's my hope that the next "Meet the BikeAthens Board" gathering could take place in the new BRP Shop in the Chase Park Warehouse.  I have no knowledge of an opening date for the new shop, but it would be a splendid way to celebrate tangible progress by meeting there.
