BRP needs kids bikes!

It's that time of year again and we are looking for kids bikes to
refurbish for our Holiday Bikes For Kids drive. If you have bikes in good
condition that your kids have outgrown,
please consider donating them to our program. We'll refurbish them and
give them to underprivileged children in December to brighten up their
holiday season. We are accepting donations at our BRP bike shop during
normal hours, or contact brp [at] bikeathens.com if you can't make it down
then. We're also looking for monetary donations to help buy new helmets to
distribute with each bike. We pay $5 each for helmets so every donation
helps. Thanks for helping kids have a great holiday this year!

Holiday Bikes for Kids drive!

Join in the efforts to brighten many childrenâs holidays with a gift of a
bicycle and helmet! In mid-November, the BikeAthens Bike Recycling
Program (BRP) will begin refurbishing childrenâs bikes only. BRP
reconditions the bikes, and schools and social service agencies distribute
them to kids in need, just before the Holidays. We rely exclusively on
volunteers at our warehouse shop located in the Chase St. warehouse
district.  Volunteers need not have any knowledge of bicycle maintenance;
just be willing to get their hands dirty repairing, tuning up, cleaning,
and outfitting bikes. The shop is currently operating under the following
expanded time schedule:

o Sundays: 2 â 4:30PM
o Mondays & Wednesdays: 6 â 8:30PM
o Saturdays: 9:30AM â 12:30PM (December 3, 10, & 17 only!)
o Last day of HB4K project: Sunday, Dec. 18

Seeking Complete Streets Coalition partners: organizations and businesses

BikeAthensâ Transportation Policy Committee is seeking coalitions partners
to join the city-wide effort for a Complete Streets Policy. Athens
Community Council on Aging is a solid partner already due to their needs
for higher quality pedestrian and transit facilities. We are also seeking
business partners in this coalition, since businesses benefit from better
customer access to their front doors through a more complete street
network that serves the diverse population of Athens-Clarke County. If
you are one or know of any businesses or organizations interested in
talking further about this, contact policy [at] bikeathens.com.

Athens Holiday Parade

The Athens Holiday Parade of Lights starts Thursday, 7pm, December 1.
BikeAthens will be participating. This year, if youâd like to
participate, email admin [at] bikeathens.com to reserve space and get more
information. We welcome walkers and bicyclists in this mobile âfloatâ,
which has won the âBest Novelty Floatâ Award for 2 years in a row!
