We're open for experienced volunteers only for the next couple of weeks, while we catch up after the holidays. BikeAthens' Bicycle Recycling program, a cooperative venture with local social support agencies, distributes reconditioned bikes to individuals in the Athens community who are underserved by private and public transportation. Two sisters and their mother and close friend will ride across America to benefit bicycle safety advocacy efforts of the League of American Bicyclists and the Safe Routes to School National Partnership. Dubbed "Ride America for Safe Routes" (RASR), their ride will travese 13 southern states and 20 major cities, logging over 5,000 miles between Florida and California. RASRâs mission is to raise $50,000 for the Leagueâs Bike Friendly America program and for Safe Routes to School (SRTS) programs in local communities. In addition, theyâll be advocating for bike safety and promoting the public health benefits of bicycling through events with local bicycle groups and SRTS programs in communities along their route.
