Group Ride TODAY!

We had the date for this ride incorrect last week, sorry! Meet for a casually paced ride around town *TODAY*, July 6, 6pm, meeting and ending at Earthfare in 5 points. We'll have a little social afterwards from 7-8pm at Earthfare. We'll have a cook out with burgers and veggie burgers for $5.00! A portion of the proceeds goes to BikeAthens. The ride, 5-6 miles, will make you feel more comfortable riding with traffic, and will start with a basic safety lesson. Just bring a helmet and water bottle.

BikeAthens Board member applications

We've received lots of applications for our new board. You now have until 5pm, Saturday, July 7 to submit more. Thank you to everyone who submitted applications so far! Email admin [at] bikeathens.com for more info and an application.

Volunteer Opportunities

  • Bike Recycling Program (BRP):  BRP workdays are held Mondays & Wednesdays from 6-8 PM and Sundays from 2-4:30 PM at the Chase St. warehouses (149 Tracy St.).  No skills necessary - we have plenty of volunteer jobs for all levels of experience.  Just be willing to get your hands dirty.  BRP reconditions bikes to individuals in our community who are currently underserved by private and public transportation. New volunteers are best on Wednesdays.

Weekly Read:  the Boulevard Park

Check out the recent OnlineAthens article about a park being built in the Boulevard Woods. This park will be highly accessible by bike, since it is located a few blocks from downtown. It will be one more neighborhood park in Athens, adding to a growing list of awesome neighborhood parks we have. Neighborhood parks are good for multiple modes of transportation.
