Bike to Market Day this Saturday

From 8am-12pm, on Saturday, July 21st, we'll be at the Farmer's Market at Bishop Park. We'll have bike maps, bike and ped safety tips, and transit info. Come hang out with us and learn everything there is to know about our organization, just after you pick up your veggies from this great weekly market.

FON forum on TSPLOST

Wednesday next week, at 7:30pm, the Federation of Neighborhoods is hosting a forum on the proposed TSPLOST.  This 1 cent transportation tax for our Northeast GA region will be discussed by these panelists:  James Garland, ABH Columnist, Colleen Kiernan of the Sierra Club, Alice Kinman, ACC Commissioner and TSPLOST roundtable member, and a rep from the Athens Area Chamber of Commerce.  Always open to the public, these forums meet at the ACHF Firehall, 489 Prince Ave.

Eastside Pedestrian Public Input

If you are an active pedestrian living on the Eastside, you may be interested in this public input opportunity for a street design proposal for the Ponderosa and Sunnybrook Drive areas.

Volunteer Opportunities

  • Bike Recycling Program (BRP):  BRP workdays are held Mondays & Wednesdays from 6-8 PM and Sundays from 2-4:30 PM at the Chase St. warehouses (149 Tracy St.).  No skills necessary - we have plenty of volunteer jobs for all levels of experience.  Just be willing to get your hands dirty.  BRP reconditions bikes to individuals in our community who are currently underserved by private and public transportation. New volunteers are best on Wednesdays.

Weekly Read:  Bicycle Highways

Turns out in Denmark, there are separated bike paths between the "suburbs" and city employment centers. Check out this article to read about this fabulous idea! Similar to the Athens Greenway Network Plan but better, these "bicycle highways" attract some serious crowds. Article brought to you by BikeAthens volunteer Lauren Blais...

Down the Road and Elsewhere

Annual Meeting, August 18
From 6-10pm, on this August Saturday, come celebrate BikeAthens at this year's Annual Meeting!  We'll have food and beverages for our members, new and old, and our volunteers.  Come renew, join for the first time, or get to know us in the hopes of becoming a member soon!  Ballots for next year's board of directors will be available.  Come join in the fun, and meet us at the ACHF Firehall on Prince - a gorgeous building.

BRP Bike Sale
On Sunday, August 26, we're planning on having our next BRP used bike sale.  You're guaranteed to find some serious treasures!  Photos and details coming soon.  Stay tuned...
