1. cLips of Faith Volunteer Thank You

The cLips of Faith event had an excellent turnout, and we wish to thank all of 
the volunteers who helped to make it such a successful event. We all had a 
great time, enjoyed getting to know our volunteers, and want to express our 
sincere gratitude for those that helped in this successful fundraising effort 
for all programs of BikeAthens. We hope you had a great time too, and know 
that 
we simply couldn't have done it without you.

2. Georgia Bike Summit 2010

The Georgia Bike Summit will be held in Savannah thisSaturday, October 9, 2010!Â
 
This gathering sets the stage for statewide bicycling gains by networking state 
leaders, educating and empowering advocates, identifying common problems in our 
local communities and setting priorities for Georgia Bikes in 2011.ÂÂVisit

members will attend to improve our ability toÂadvocate for your alternative 
transportation needs, in addition to engaging government and other non-profit, 
statewide leaders in discussing of how we can do that together.

3. Bike Recycling Program

BikeAthens would like to make a public appeal for help in finding an 
affordable, 
long-term space. Please visit the link below to see if you might be able to

The next regular BRP session is Sunday. BRP workdays are held Monday & 
Wednesday 
from 6-8:30pm and Sunday from 2-4:30pm at the Chase St.
warehouses. Volunteers need not have any knowledge of bicycle maintenance; just 
be willing to get their hands dirty repairing , tuning up, cleaning,
and outfitting bikes. Feel free to bring your own repair stands and tools 
although it is not necessary that you have these items to participate.

BikeAthensâ Bicycle Recycling program, a cooperative venture with local social 
support agencies, distributes reconditioned bikes to individuals in
the Athens community who are underserved by private and public transportation. 
We rely exclusively on volunteers to recondition the bikes.

4. Policy Committee update

Policy Committee could use some help in advancing current efforts to advocate 
for state and local funds, including those for bike, pedestrian, transit, and 
rail-trail infrastructure.ÂÂWe could also use the help of some great writers 
and 
folks interested in PR to get the word out, via Athens Banner Herald,ÂFlagpole, 
etc.Âabout severalÂinitiatives. Those include the statewide T-SPLOST, SPLOST, 
UGA bike safety and planning, TE funds, Safe Routes.ÂÂIf you'reÂinterested,

Oct. 13th, at Cine Cafe downtown.

5. Fix Your Own Bike Survey - Please take a minute to respond

We would like to measure the community's interest in a Fix Your Own Bike 
program, which we would implement if we succeed in finding a bigger, better 

BikeÂRecycling Program space. FYOB would involve regular (i.e. weekly, 
bi-weekly) sessions during which the public can rent a bike work station, 

complete with a set of tools, a work bench, and a bike repair stand. 
Specialized 
tools would be available for use by all, and mechanics would be on hand to give 
guidance on repairs. Spare parts such as cables and tubes would be available 
for 
sale, as would used parts from our inventory.
